Errors

What the API answers when it cannot do what you asked, and what to do about it.

What an error looks like

Every error has the same shape. Use code in your program, not message, which may change. Include request_id if you write to us.

{
  "error": {
    "type": "invalid_request_error",
    "code": "missing_recipients",
    "message": "…",
    "param": "to",
    "doc_url": "https://www.mailingest.com/en/errors#missing_recipients",
    "request_id": "req_…"
  }
}

What to do

  • 400, 401, 403, 404, 409 and 422The request has to change: repeating it gives the same answer. The message says what is wrong and param which field.
  • 429Too many requests or a limit reached. Wait as long as Retry-After says, when it is there. A daily limit only clears the next day.
  • 500 and 503The fault is ours. Try again with the same Idempotency-Key, so that it is not sent twice.
